I maintain my own Maven repository, to publish things that are not necessarily of general interest (or that do not follow standard Java naming conventions).

This plugin simplifies deployment of new versions: you use it to generate the relevant ZIP, and then you extract it in the root folder of your repository. Everything gets placed in the correct spot, or at least it should be.
